In 2002, Beta Climbing Designs became the first company to introduce dedicated outdoor skin care to the UK market. Developed from long days on Yorkshire Gritstone and experience working at height in the demanding British climate, Beta recognised early that skin is a critical piece of equipment for anyone operating in harsh environments. 

At a time when skin care was often seen as cosmetic rather than functional, Beta began supplying products designed specifically to protect skin exposed to friction, weather, and repeated use. Despite initial scepticism from retailers, the role of skin care in athletic preparation and recovery is now widely recognised across climbing, running, mountaineering and other outdoor disciplines. 

24 years later, and building on decades of hands-on experience, Beta Climbing Designs has worked alongside Polly Glasse (formerly of ClimbOn) to develop Beta Skin Care — a 100% natural range designed to support skin strength, recovery, and resilience in demanding environments. 

The range includes three complementary formats: Beta Bar, a durable solid bar for targeted protection in high-wear areas; Beta Balm, a versatile conditioning balm for daily maintenance and recovery; and Beta Lip Salve, a concentrated formula for exposed skin prone to dryness and cracking. 

Together, they provide a practical skin care system designed for athletes who rely on their skin to perform — helping maintain comfort, durability, and readiness for the next challenge.
